Water rollerMarcher (et courir) sur l'eauGuide complet 2026
The water roller: a sealed sphere where you can walk, run, and tumble… on the surface of the water!

Walk on water, run, slide, and tumble without ever getting wet: that's the promise of the water roller (or inflatable water ball, water walking ball). The principle? A large, transparent, airtight sphere that you enter, placed on a shallow body of water. A flagship attraction for water parks, lakes, and summer events, it's a hit with both children and adults. Here's the complete guide: operation, safety, installation, use, and maintenance.

1. What is a water roller?

The water roller is a transparent, airtight inflatable sphere (or roller) made of TPU or PVC, placed on water. The participant enters through a waterproof zipper, then tries to move by walking, running, or rolling — all while staying dry inside. It's a very photogenic thrill attraction, the aquatic cousin of the zorb ball (see our zorb ball guide).

It is used on a calm body of water, in a dedicated inflatable pool or a shallow basin. Find models in the water roller & inflatable water ball collection.

2. Roller or ball: what's the difference?

Type Shape Sensation
Water ball (sphere) Sphere Walking, running, tumbling in all directions
Water roller (cylinder) Cylinder Rolling forward, like a hamster

Both operate on the same principle of airtightness and inflation; the choice depends on the desired effect and the available water space.

3. How it works?

The sphere is inflated with a blower, you enter through the zipper, and off you go for a few minutes.

The operator inflates the sphere with an electric blower, lets the participant in, closes the airtight opening, then pushes the ball onto the water. Since the air inside is limited, each session lasts only a few minutes, after which the operator reopens the sphere to renew the air.

4. Safety: strict rules

5 règles de sécuritéDurée très courte par passage (air limité dans la sphère)Un opérateur surveille en permanence et peut ouvrir vitePlan d'eau peu profond, calme et délimitéDéconseillé en cas de claustrophobie ou de problème cardiaque
Operator supervision and short sessions are the basis of safety.
Essential: as the sphere is closed, air is limited: sessions must be very short and the operator must be able to open the zipper immediately. Never leave a participant alone or for too long.

5. Installation and operation

The water roller is operated on a shallow, calm, and delimited body of water: a dedicated inflatable pool, a basin, or a secured area of a lake. Provide a blower for quick inflation between sessions, and a trained operator on site. It is a very popular attraction for park operators, leisure centers, beaches, and summer events, generating queues and great videos.

6. Maintenance and storage

After use, clean the sphere with clear water, check the watertight zipper and valves, then allow it to dry completely before deflating and folding — humidity and haze on the transparent TPU should be avoided. Store away from direct sunlight and frost. A repair kit allows for quick sealing of any leaks.

FAQ: your questions about the water roller

How long can you stay in the water ball?

Very little—only a few minutes per session—because the air inside the sphere is limited. The operator times each turn, reopens the zipper to refresh the air, and rotates participants. Short sessions ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Do you need to know how to swim?

The participant stays dry inside the waterproof sphere, on a shallow and supervised body of water. Knowing how to swim is not essential, but the presence of an attentive operator, able to open the zipper immediately, is mandatory. The water roller is always operated in calm, shallow water.

From what age?

The attraction is suitable for children and adults, in compliance with manufacturer's instructions (age, weight, duration). For younger children, very short sessions and close supervision are preferred. People with claustrophobia or heart problems should refrain.

Where can it be used?

On any shallow, calm, and delimited body of water: a dedicated inflatable pool, a basin, or a secured area of a lake. Avoid deep, turbulent, or unsupervised waters. A well-defined area facilitates supervision and participant rotation.

Is the water roller profitable for an operator?

Yes: it is a highly demanded attraction in the summer season, which attracts the public and generates quick rotations. For parks, leisure centers, and beach entertainment, the purchase generally pays for itself quickly, especially with several spheres and a dedicated basin.

How to maintain it?

Clean with clear water, check the zipper and valves, let it dry completely before folding, and store it dry, away from sun and frost. A repair kit can be used to treat any leaks and extend the life of the sphere.
